How It All Started

I didn’t set out to build a sleep solution—I was just trying to fix my own nights. For years, I dealt with the kind of sleep that leaves you more exhausted in the morning than when you went to bed. I was snoring, waking up gasping for air, and constantly aware that something wasn’t right. Like millions of others across Canada and the United States, I was living with moderate obstructive sleep apnea, and it wasn’t just affecting my sleep—it was affecting how I felt, how I showed up during the day, and how I lived.

I went down the same path most people do. I bought everything I could find—ergonomic pillows, mouth guards, nasal strips, chin straps—anything that promised even a small improvement. I visited doctors, went through sleep studies, and tried to understand what was actually happening to me at night. At one point, a CPAP machine was suggested, but not strongly recommended. And even then, something didn’t sit right with me. I couldn’t accept the idea of being tethered to a machine just to sleep. I wanted something simpler. Something that worked with my body, not around it. I wanted to be able to sleep anywhere—at home, in the country, even off the grid—without needing power, wires, or equipment.

When my test results came back, I was told my condition didn’t meet the threshold for mandatory CPAP use. That was supposed to be reassuring—but it wasn’t. Because I knew what I was experiencing. I knew I was still stopping breathing at times during the night. And to me, even one moment of not breathing was one too many. That was the turning point.  I stopped looking for something to manage the problem and started asking a different question: what if there was a way to prevent it from happening in the first place?

One night around 2 a.m., lying awake again, something clicked—and in that moment, I was blessed with a solution to my problem. I started noticing how my head, neck, and chin were positioned—and how small shifts seemed to affect my breathing. That moment turned into an idea, and that idea turned into an obsession. I began sketching, testing, and building prototypes. Over the next three years, I worked through countless versions, refining the concept until it became something real. That process led to patented Lacuna technologya design built around supporting the body in a way that helps maintain a more stable airway during sleep.

I want to be clear about something: I’m not a doctor, and I don’t pretend to be. I’m an inventor who lived the problem and refused to ignore it. I always encourage anyone dealing with sleep apnea to consult a medical professional and understand the severity of their condition. In some cases, sleep apnea is serious and requires medical treatment like CPAP therapy or surgery. That’s not something to take lightly. But I also know there are many people like me—people searching for something different, something simpler, something that fits into real life.

That’s where LacunaSOLO comes in. It was never meant to replace medical care—it was created as a non-electrical, non-mechanical, non-surgical approach for people exploring alternatives. It’s built on the idea that how you position your body during sleep matters more than most people realize. My goal has always been simple: to help people sleep better by breathing better during sleep. What started as a personal struggle has turned into a mission—and this is just the beginning.
